- Serbian defeats long time rival in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 at Rod Laver Arena
- Record open era seventh title takes just two hours and four minutes

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic beat his long-time rival Rafael Nadal to win a record seventh open era Australian Open title in Melbourne on Sunday.
Djokovic took little time to beat the Spaniard winning it in straight sets (6-3, 6-2, 6-3) in just two hours and four minutes at Rod Laver Arena.
The world number one said he was “speechless” after he was presented with the trophy and praised his opponent on returning from injury, as well as thanking his family back home.
“Trophies are even more special when I have someone so dear and special to me in my life to share it with.” he said of his wife and children, who had promised him they would watch.
The Spaniard was gracious in defeat, praising Djokovic in his post-match interview: “First thing I have to say is many congratulations to Novak and his team. It was an amazing level of tennis tonight and during the two weeks. Well done for everything.
“Even if tonight wasn’t at my best day, I had someone playing much better against me.”
