British teen tennis star Emma Raducanu’s Wimbledon may not have ended how she or her fans wanted but the 18-year-old has made an impression at the All-England Club.
Despite her wild-card run ending with her medical retirement in the fourth round against Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic on Monday night, the Canada-born Romanian-Chinese Briton has plenty to cheer when she recovers.
Raducanu, who had US$39,558 in career earnings before being handed a Wimbledon wild card, will take home £181,000 (US$250,000) for reaching the fourth round.
She already said that she will invest it in her career, after taking her team out for a meal, which may see her rise higher than the world No 175 ranking that she will be given when they are updated next week.

Aside from the prize money, prestige and surge in the rankings, Raducanu has also won plenty of new fans.
Many of those are in China, where they have tracked the progress of the player whose mother comes from Shenyang and who visits the city in Liaoning province most years.

The teenager’s profile has grown in China this week with her story being shared on social media, such as Weibo, and in the domestic media.
As for her Instagram and Twitter, Raducanu now has 50,000 Twitter followers and 240,000 on Instagram – and counting.
Some of those new fans include friends in high places, such as British astronaut Tim Peake.

“Congratulations Emma Raducanu on your fantastic win today. What a debut Wimbledon 2021,” he wrote after her second round win over Czech Marketa Vondrousova.
Former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher then called on his fans to support Raducanu ahead of the fourth round.
“Get on the Les Dennis tday and get behind Emma Raducanu celestial talent,” Gallagher wrote, referring to tennis in rhyming slang.
Wimbledon fan fury as McEnroe says ‘it got a bit too much’ for Raducanu
Former England international footballer Gary Lineker was another to show his support, sending a message after the devastating fourth round defeat.
Lineker retweeted a post from the official Wimbledon account that said “This is just the beginning”.

“Yes it is. Well played Emma Raducanu, you’ve been joyous. Wish you a speedy recovery.” Both Lineker and Gallagher had tweeted their support throughout the tournament.
There were thousands of well-wishers telling her to get well soon, while elsewhere her fans turned on tennis legend John McEnroe after his comments over the medical withdrawal.
That support is part of the dramatic change since the start of the tournament.

Raducanu entered Wimbledon as the world No 338. She had never played anyone inside the top 100 and only made her WTA Tour event debut two weeks before in Nottingham.
As Wimbledon wrote in their tweet, “A Star is Born”.
Now she is known around the world and those new fans back her to return.
