US Open champ Emma Raducanu celebrates return with mum’s home-made dumplings
- ‘My mum made some really good home-made dumplings, but there was nothing crazy or over the top,’ says US Open champion

US Open women’s singles champion Emma Raducanu celebrated her return home to her family with a hug, home-made dumplings and a rewatch of her historic grand slam win, she told British media on Friday.
“My parents probably [give me] tough love and at the time I’m probably not as grateful as in hindsight, but they just gave me a hug when I came back really, nothing crazy, no big celebration,” Raducanu told BBC Breakfast on Friday of her return to Bromley.
Neither her mother Renee or father Ian were in New York to watch Raducanu become the first tennis player, male or female, to win a grand slam as a qualifier. The family were reunited this week after the 18-year-old returned to Britain following celebrations and media appearances in the US.
“My mum made some really good home-made dumplings, but there was nothing crazy or over the top.”
Raducanu’s mother is from Shenyang and the Mandarin-speaking teen made annual visits to China to see family before Covid-19.
The new British No 1 is proving popular with Chinese tennis fans and posted on Weibo for the first time, telling her followers that she will play in China next year.
