US Open champion Emma Raducanu could face her idol Simona Halep at Indian Wells rather than the Transylvania Open.
Raducanu committed to playing the event in her father’s native Romania last week, where two-time slam champion Halep is among the biggest names, but the pair could meet much sooner.
The wild card is the No 17 seed at Indian Wells and has a bye to the second round as one of the top 32 players.
Raducanu will play either Colombia’s Maria Camila Osorio or Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus in the second round.

Halep will face either Chinese No 1 Zhang Shuai or Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine in the second round with the chance of a possible third round meeting with Briton’s No 1 on offer.
The 18-year-old British world No 22 – whose mother is from China – has said that Halep and Li Na were her tennis role models.
Transylvania Open will be ‘special moment’ for US Open champ Raducanu
China’s only other player in the singles main draw, Zheng Saisai faces Caty McNally of the USA in the first round.
The winner will move on to face top seed Karolina Pliskova in the second round.
Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei plays Madison Brengle in her first round match as the doubles specialist awaits the doubles draw.

Hsieh and partner Elise Mertens of Belgium are the second seeds in the doubles.
Brengle replaced Serena Williams, one of a number of high profile withdrawals at the event, while Hsieh replaced former British No 1 Johanna Konta.
Neither world No 1 Ashleigh Barty nor now world No 12 Naomi Osaka will play at the event, often referred to as the “fifth grand slam”. Osaka has been replaced by Misaki Doi of Japan, who faces Ann Li of the US in the first round.
Barty’s Indian Wells decision could help Raducanu to WTA Finals
In the men’s draw, which will be made later, world No 1 Novak Djokovic is the most notable absentee.
The BNP Paribas Open returns to California this week after being cancelled last year because of the pandemic.
A strong showing at the tournament will help Raducanu make up ground in the Race to the WTA Finals, which take place in Mexico next month.
