Despite some early nerves, Hong Kong tennis prospect Coleman Wong Chak-lam stormed into the second round of the Australian Open Junior Championships on Sunday with a decisive win over hometown wild card Amor Jasika.

Wong needed just 56 minutes to get the job done, taking the win in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. The 17-year-old served up some stunning moments, with a total of eight aces during his game and recording the fastest serve at 204km/h.

The reigning US Open boys’ doubles champion is seeded 12th for the Melbourne Park event, part of the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors, and will now face Turkey’s Togan Tokac in round two.

“I’m very happy with my performance today,” Wong told SCMP after his win. “I was nervous before the match, but it was a very good match for me to prepare for the rest of the tournament. I’m feeling confident, I will just keep my mind on the game and keep going.”

It’s been a busy few weeks for Wong, who competed at the J1 Traralgon 2022 Tennis Tournament last week where he progressed through to the semi-finals, but was defeated by Croatian Mili Poljicak. In addition to the men’s singles tournament, he will play alongside Brazil-born American Bruno Kuzuhara in Monday’s junior doubles event, where they are seeded second.
