Wimbledon: China’s Zhang Shuai into women’s doubles final as she chases third grand slam title

China’s Zhang Shuai will have a chance to win her third grand slam title this weekend after reaching the women’s doubles final with Elise Mertens on Friday.

The No 1 seeds beat American duo Danielle Collins and Desirae Krawczyk 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 on Centre Court at the All England Club.

They will now play the 2018 champions, Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova, in Sunday’s final, after the Czech pair beat fourth seeds Jelena Ostapenko and Lyudmyla Kichenok 6-2, 6-2.

Mertens is a reigning champion in the event, having teamed with Hsieh Su-wei of Taiwan to win the title last year.

The 33-year-old Zhang is into her first Wimbledon final, having won two women’s doubles major titles with Samantha Stosur, at the 2019 Australian Open and last year’s US Open.
