Coleman Wong Chak-lam will become the first men’s player from Hong Kong to feature in a grand slam tournament in the modern era when he makes his US Open bow on Monday.

The 21-year-old is set to take on Aleksandar Kovacevic of the United States in the first round in New York.

World No 173 Wong earned US$110,000 just for reaching the first round of the year’s final grand slam event, which he managed by winning three qualifying matches. Should Wong win on Monday, his prize money will go up to US$154,000.

Wong will take on Kovacevic at 11pm Hong Kong time on Court 13.
