With its unique location by the Shing Mun River in Sha Tin, The Hong Kong Heritage Museum is always worth a weekend outing as the museum strives to offer a kaleidoscopic view of Hong Kong heritage through art, history and culture. As three current exhibitions are about to draw to a close, temporarily or permanently, the public should take the chance to get out and about, and soak in some local culture.
Spirit of Hong Kong print art and printing techniques
Hong Kong artists started making print art as early as 1930s, constantly experimenting with new techniques while creating breathtaking images that can be either abstract or reflective of their times. Two current exhibitions entitled "20/20 Hong Kong Print Art Exhibition" and "Between the Lines - The Legends of Hong Kong Printing" showcase print art by local artists and introduce traditional printing techniques.

The selected artworks include prints by masters and new creations by young artists. Visitors will see how print art can cross over with new media such as digital graphic, animation, 3D printing and augmented reality, and appreciate how printmaking techniques can be applied to creative works like illustration, design, zines and other cultural products.
"Between the Lines - The Legends of Hong Kong Printing" presents an array of interesting stories about traditional Chinese movable types, letterpress printing and lithography. Besides showcasing the lost art of traditional printing, the exhibition offers an outlet for young designers who are now creating a new generation of letterpress products, reviving and transforming the traditions of movable type and letterpress printing.

A look at Hong Kong through Tung Wah’s history of philanthropy
Since its inception in 1870, the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (Tung Wah) has provided medical, educational and social services to the people of Hong Kong. It has also become synonymous with philanthropy in Hong Kong, engaging in humanitarian efforts such as disaster relief, burial and bone repatriation services, and refugee support for Chinese communities at home and abroad.

Tung Wah has been successful in combining philanthropy with mass entertainment while creating collective memories for Hong Kongers. To sustain and expand its diverse services, Tung Wah organises a comprehensive programme of fundraising activities every year. These include door-to-door collection of alms in its early days, charity Cantonese opera concerts by prominent stars, funfairs and television galas during the post-war period as well as raising funds through online platforms in the present time, in order to rally mass support. These activities capture the evolving faces of Hong Kong society while reflecting the 150-year-old establishment's ability to change with the times.
