Hezbollah: A prominent Lebanese Shia Islamist political party and paramilitary group, headquartered in Beirut. Formed in 1982, its primary mission initially focused on resisting Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon. The organisation operates across political, military, and social spheres, providing extensive welfare services while maintaining a significant armed wing. Recognised for its strong ties with Iran and its substantial influence within Lebanese politics, Hezbollah has also played a key role in regional conflicts, notably the Syrian civil war. It is designated as a terrorist organisation by numerous countries.
