Western nations at UN slam China’s human rights record

In a United Nations speech delivered October 6, 2020, and supported by 38 other countries, Germany criticised China’s human rights record and called on the rest of the world to accept Uygur Muslims facing persecution in the country as refugees. The chargé d’affaires at the UK Mission to the United Nations also expressed concerns over a national security law Beijing has imposed in Hong Kong, which allows people to be sent to mainland China for trials. China and its UN allies rejected the statements as interference in “China’s internal affairs”.
