The Chiang Mai collective convincing Thai farmers to go organic for better profits
Mathana Aphaimool’s family bucked chemical-based farming trends in Chiang Mai by going organic 40 years ago, convincing several other farmers to do the same in the name of sustainability.
The Mae Tha Sustainable Agriculture Cooperative was started in 1986 to promote sustainable agriculture and better negotiate fair prices for farmers in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Today, their brand is found in major supermarkets across the country. The collective hopes to leverage their success to convince more farmers in the area to join forces and go organic.
