Indian rats are fed or become food, depending on where they live
Rats in India can have starkly contrasting fates on opposite sides of the country. In the northern state of Rajasthan, rodents are fed at a temple where devotees consider them to be reincarnations of Hindu deity Karni Mata and her sons. But in Assam state in the northeast, rats can end up on the other side of the menu – hunted and sold as a delicacy.
