Japanese robot provides Buddhist teachings and chants at Kyoto temple

A robotic is busy offering Buddhist teachings and sermons at the Kodaiji Temple in Kyoto, Japan.

Called “Minder”, the robot offers a futuristic vision of the bodhisattva Kannon also known as the Goddess of Mercy. Made mostly from stainless steel, Minder was created by a team at Osaka University led by famed roboticist Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro.

The bare-looking robot cost more than 10 million yen (US$90,000) to make.

The temple will host the robot and its preaching until May 6.
