'I am Taiwanese', Czech senate president tells Taiwan's parliament
Czech Republic's senate president Milos Vystrcil invoked a famous Cold War-era phrase as he delivered a speech to Taiwan's parliament on September 1, 2020. During a visit that has incensed Beijing, Vystrcil ended his speech that underscored shared democratic values by proclaiming in Mandarin "I am Taiwanese," a throwback to former US President John F Kennedy's famed 1963 anti-communist speech in a then-divided Berlin in which he declared he was a Berliner.
