At least 22 members of the Indian security forces were killed by Maoist fighters in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, a senior government official said on April 4, 2021. Firing between the two sides reportedly lasted for four hours in the tribal-dominated Chhattisgarh state during an anti-insurgency operation on April 3. Since 1967, India has been battling Naxalite-Maoist rebels who have been demanding land and jobs for the poor.
