Floating farms, salt-resistant rice among ways Bangladeshis adapt to survive violent floods

Farmers in Bangladesh have been coping with unpredictable climate conditions by using floating seed beds and developing salt-resistant rice. The South Asian nation ranks seventh in the world among countries considered most susceptible to extreme weather over the past two decades, according to the Global Climate Risk Index 2021. Rising sea levels and violent flooding have waterlogged farmland and caused high salinity in streams and soil, factors which can reduce growth and stop plant reproduction.
