China-funded hydropower station set to sharply reduce Pakistan’s carbon emissions
Pakistan’s Karot Hydropower Station has begun storing water since construction started six years ago, helping to cut the country's carbon emissions by 3.2 million tonnes every year. Sitting along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the project is the first to be financed by the Silk Road Fund, which is part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative. The news comes at a key time as doubts have been raised about CPEC’s financial viability. China and Pakistan, however, have reiterated their support for the projects.
