Endangered tigers enjoy Lunar New Year treats at Singapore safari park

Carol Mang

Malayan tigers at Singapore’s Mandai Night Safari received Lunar New Year-themed treats as part of festivities ahead of the holidays. Labelled with the Chinese word for prosperity, a red box containing coin-shaped meat pieces inside were given to the tigers on January 25, 2022.The safari park said the treats help stimulate the tigers’ natural hunting abilities and problem-solving skills. Malayan tigers were listed as critically endangered animals in 2015, with fewer than 200 individuals left in the wild, according to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). February 1, 2022 marks the start of the Year of the Tiger, according to Chinese astrology. Representing the third year in the 12-year lunar calendar, the tiger symbolises strength and bravery.
