Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Thu Nhi fought her way out of poverty to become world boxing champion

Born into poverty and facing down calls that women do not belong in the ring, Nguyen Thi Thu Nhi fought her way to become Vietnam’s first boxing world champion after defeating a more seasoned opponent for the mini-flyweight belt. Now, Nhi is training to represent her country in the 31st Southeast Asian Games, to be held from May 12-23, 2022, in Hanoi.
