Opium trade in Afghanistan still booming, despite Taliban ban

The opium trade appears to be alive and well in Afghanistan despite the Taliban outlawing opium cultivation nationwide on April 2022. Opium farmers continue to sell their harvest to smugglers at a weekly market in Helmand province. Afghanistan has been the world’s leading supplier of opium since 2001.
