Philippine president Marcos Jnr pays first official visit to Indonesia

Philippine President Ferdinard Marcos Jnr embarked on his first official visit as the country’s leader by travelling to Indonesia to meet with his counterpart Joko Widodo on September 5, 2022. The son of elder Ferdinand Marcos, who ruled the Philippines for two decades, pledged to  strengthen cooperation with Indonesia on defence, security and the economy against the backdrop of China's growing influence in Southeast Asia. He will travel next to Singapore on September 6 to meet with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
