‘Fundamental obligation’: India’s foreign minister snubs Western sanctions on Russian oil

India’s foreign minister has said the nation will continue importing heavily discounted Russian crude oil despite criticism by Western countries that such purchases might be indirectly funding Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. At trade and energy talks in Moscow on November 8, 2022, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said it was his government’s ‘fundamental obligation’ towards the Indian people.
