A retired civil servant in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata has paid 2.5 million rupees (US$30,000) for a life-size sculpture of his late spouse. Tapas Sandilya lost his wife of 39 years to Covid in 2021. The 65-year-old commissioned a sculptor to create the silicone replica, which took six months to complete. The statue now stands in his living room as a remembrance of his late wife.
