UN blames Myanmar military for creating ‘perpetual human rights crisis’ through violence

A United Nations report published on March 3, 2023, accused Myanmar’s military of creating a “perpetual human rights crisis” across the southeast Asian country through violence. It called for “urgent, concrete action” to end the current chaos, which was sparked by the February 1, 2021 military coup, which overthrew Myanmar’s popularly elected government. The country has been plunged in violence ever since, with a resistance movement fighting the junta on multiple fronts, resulting in thousands of casualties and mass displacement.
