North Korea will launch its first military reconnaissance satellite in June to monitor the military activities of the US and its allies, state media reported on May 30, 2023. While the exact launch date has not been announced, Pyongyang notified Tokyo it planned to launch between May 31 and June 11, prompting Tokyo to put ballistic missile defences on alert.
