Active Indonesian volcano draws worshippers for ritual sacrifice during Yadnya Kasada festival

Every year, thousands of worshippers from the indigenous Tengger tribe in Indonesia climb Mount Bromo, an active volcano in eastern Java. They carry food and livestock, such as goats and chicken, up the mountain and throw them into its smoking crater as part of the centuries-old Yadnya Kasada festival.
