Tourist couple allege gang rape in India, sparking outrage and compensation offer

Police in India have detained three men accused of attacking two Spanish citizens and gang-raping the woman. The couple were on a motorbike trip through India’s remote east and camped overnight in a tent when the alleged attack took place on March 1, 2024. The woman, a travel blogger who was being treated at a hospital, and her husband received one million rupees (US$12,000) as financial compensation from Indian authorities.
