Kabosu, the Shiba Inu that inspired the “Doge” meme and Dogecoin, has died at the ripe old age of 18. The dog’s image became an internet sensation and was used in a non-fungible token (NFT) that sold for US$4 million. Dogecoin was introduced as a joke before it evolved into a US$23 billion cryptocurrency with strong supporters including tech billionaire Elon Musk. Kabosu’s owner said global fan support helped her survive bouts with leukaemia and liver disease in late 2022.
