Singapore adds 16 insects to list of approved foods for consumption

Restaurants in Singapore are now legally allowed to add certain types of insects to their menus, after the city state’s food agency green-lighted 16 species for consumption. The approved list includes crickets, grasshoppers and silkworms. Some are hailing the new policy as a move in the right direction, and UN officials have noted that insects are a good source of fat, protein, vitamins, fibre and minerals.
