Vanuatu hit by deadly magnitude 7.4 earthquake as rescuers search Pacific island for survivors

The search for survivors continues on the Pacific Island of Vanuatu after it was hit by a deadly magnitude 7.4 earthquake on December 17, 2024. At least 14 people were killed and some 200 confirmed injured. The quake devastated towns and knocked out telecoms systems. Initial reports said reservoirs, commercial buildings, embassies and a hospital were extensively damaged.  A second quake measuring 6.3 magnitude struck overnight.
