Landslides and flash flooding triggered by days of torrential monsoon rains in India’s northeast had killed at least 34 people as of June 2, 2025, according to officials. Flash floods are common during the monsoon season, which usually begins in June and eases by late September. However, South Asia has been experiencing warmer temperatures and shifting weather patterns in recent years. Most scientists say they are still not sure exactly how climate change affects monsoon patterns.
