At least 11 killed in India after stampede at cricket victory celebrations
More than 200,000 people had gone to watch the Indian Premier League cricket final in the city of Bengaluru
At least 11 people were killed and 33 injured in a stampede on June 4, 2025, as a tightly packed crowd celebrated their home cricket team’s win in Bengaluru, the capital of India’s southern state of Karnataka. Joyous cricket fans had come out to celebrate and welcome home their heroes on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru team after they beat Punjab Kings in a roller-coaster Indian Premier League cricket final on the evening of June 3. But the euphoria of the vast crowds ended in a disaster that Prime Minister Narendra Modi described as “absolutely heart-rending.”
