Japan is preparing to mark 80 years since the first atomic bombs were dropped on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On August 6, 1945, a bomb nicknamed "Little Boy" was detonated by the US military over the city of Hiroshima, killing around 140,000 people. Three days later, another atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, killing more than 75,000 people. Japan surrendered six days later, ending its military aggression in World War II. Eighty years later, victims’ families are still working to ensure that history will not be repeated.
