Super Typhoon Fung-wong: at least 2 dead and over a million evacuated in the Philippines
Fung-wong, known locally as Uwan, has brought torrential rain, high winds and flooding to the north of the archipelago’s most populous island, Luzon.
Super Typhoon Fung-wong slammed into the Philippines’ eastern seaboard on November 9, 2025, after killing at least two people and forcing more than 1 million to evacuate vulnerable areas at risk of flash floods, landslides and tidal surges. The storm crossed over the north of the archipelago’s most populous island, Luzon, according to the local weather bureau, with torrential rain, sustained winds of 185km/h (115mph) and gusts of up to 230km/h (140mph). It was the 21st storm this year to hit the Philippines. The nation is only just recovering from Typhoon Kalmaegi, which left 224 dead in the Philippines and five in Vietnam.
