At least 30 injured after magnitude 7.5 quake in Japan

At least 30 people were injured in a massive earthquake measured at magnitude 7.5 that struck northeastern Japan on December 8, 2025. The injuries reported included one person seriously hurt in the main northern island of Hokkaido, according to Japan’s Fire and Disaster Management Agency. In Hokkaido, the ground shook violently for around 30 seconds as smartphone alarms rang to alert residents. Surveillance footage showed shaking in cities across northeast Japan when the quake struck, prompting tsunami warnings and orders for residents to evacuate. Authorities have warned of similar or even stronger tremors in Pacific coastal areas.
