In rural India, villagers are turning to cow dung as an alternative to cooking gas cylinders. The practice is gaining prominence amid an energy crisis caused by the Iran war, as gas shortages spark queues and panic buying daily. Since the 1980s, India has promoted biogas as a low-cost rural alternative, subsidising over five million biogas converter tanks.
