The Chinese cliffside tunnel carved with blood, sweat and fear
The only road access to the tiny village of Guoliang in central China takes visitors on a white-knuckle journey through a tunnel carved into the side of a sheer cliff. The stunning views along the road in a mountainous area of Henan province have become a draw for tourists. Many visitors are unaware the tunnel took five years to carve by 13 often-terrified villagers using blood, sweat and only basic tools.
