Stone-age beast carvings found at Chinese Neolithic site

Some 30 stone carvings depicting the faces of mythical beasts have been found at a Neolithic site in China’s northwestern province of Shaanxi. Historians believe the carvings were temple ornaments used in the Shang and Zhou dynasties (1,600-256 BC). The relics were unearthed in the ruins of the city of Shimao, the country’s largest stone-age site which dates back some 4,000 years.
