China’s first Hualong One nuclear reactor begins commercial operations

China’s first Hualong One third-generation pressurised water nuclear reactor began commercial operations on January 30, 2021, according to its developer, China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC). The rector has been designed to have a 60-year lifespan. Each unit of Hualong One has a capacity of 1.161 million kilowatts, enough to meet the annual domestic electricity demands of 1 million people in a moderately developed community, the company said.
