Beijing wants China-US ties to return to ‘sound and steady growth’ track at Alaska talks

Talks between China and the United States started on March 18, 2021, in the US state of Alaska. In his opening statement, Chinese Foreign Affairs Director Yang Jiechi said China hopes to see “no confrontation, no conflict, mutual respect” and “win-win cooperation” with the United States. Thorny issues such as human rights in Tibet, Hong Kong and Xinjiang are expected to be raised during the discussion taking place in Anchorage.
