Wandering elephants in China stop for a nap after 500 kilometre journey

A herd of 15 wild Asian elephants that wandered out of their nature reserve in November 2020 were spotted lying down for rest in a wood near Kunming city, the capital of China’s southwestern Yunnan province in early June, 2021. The elephants have been travelling for more than a year, covering 500 kilometres (300 miles). Local authorities continue to monitor the elephants’ journey to keep them away from populated areas.
