13 dead in northern China after bus runs off flooded bridge into river

A shuttle bus taking 51 workers to a steel plant in China’s northern Hebei province fell off a bridge into the Hutuo River near the provincial capital Shijiazhuang on October 11, 2021. Rescuers saved 50 people from the swollen river, but 13 people were pronounced dead after failed attempts to resuscitate them. One person remained missing. The bus driver has been taken into police custody and an investigation into the accident is under way.
