Virtual tomb-sweeping gains acceptance in China amid rising Covid numbers and travel restrictions

China is observing the traditional Ching Ming Festival, or tomb-sweeping festival. The three-day holiday is a time for people to pay their respects to the dead and worship ancestors. While families would normally visit the grave sites of their late relatives, the surge in Covid-19 infections, increased travel restrictions and mandatory quarantine have led many people in mainland China to adopt a virtual approach.
