Shanghai erupts in celebration as two-month Covid-19 lockdown comes to an end

China’s financial hub Shanghai officially ended its two-month Covid-19 lockdown on Wednesday, June 1, 2022. People poured onto the streets to celebrate the lifting of the controversial lockdown of the city of 23 million people initiated wide discussion on China’s tightly controlled social media. Many citizens fled the city immediately after the quarantine ended, and some areas still remained under quarantine until June 1.
