‘Monster fish’ caught in Shanghai as hunt for alligator gar continues to captivate China
Officials in the Chinese city of Shanghai caught an alligator gar from a river on September 3, 2022, as media attention focuses on the razor-toothed fish many residents describe as a “monster fish”. The fish is not known to attack humans, but officials consider the species normally found in North and Central America to be dangerous for the environment in China, where it has been identified in at least eight provinces since July.
