2-metre ‘giant rice’ twice as tall as other varieties nearly ready for first harvest in China

The first harvest of hybrid rice plants that can grow nearly twice as tall as conventional varieties is nearly ready in the central Chinese province of Hunan. Stalks on the engineered rice can grow to as high as 2.2 metres (7.2ft), said Liu Licheng, an assistant researcher at the Rice Research Institute in a September 18, 2022, interview with state television.
