Artists from China’s ‘oil painting village’ adapt to create original art during economic downturn

Shenzhen’s Dafen village was well-known for creating near-perfect replicas of masterpiece paintings for export. But the 2018 global economic downturn and the pandemic led to a huge drop in export sales, forcing artists in the village to adapt by creating original works.
