Foxconn billionaire Terry Gou announces Taiwan presidential run as independent candidate

Foxconn founder Terry Gou announced on August 28, 2023, that he will join the Taiwan presidential race. The head of the Taiwanese tech giant will run as an independent candidate after he failed to clinch the nomination from the main opposition Kuomintang party, which chose Mayor Hou Yu-ih instead. The billionaire businessman said he is joining the race because he thinks the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is unable to offer a bright future for the island.
