Chinese residents mourn death of 10-year-old Japanese boy stabbed in Shenzhen

Residents have gathered outside a Japanese primary school in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen to mourn a 10-year-old boy who died after being stabbed on September 18, 2024. The attack happened on the anniversary of Japan’s 1931 invasion of China. For many Chinese, it is a sensitive date viewed as a symbol of national humiliation. Japanese officials called for caution and improved safety around the anniversary.
