Residents have gathered outside a Japanese primary school in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen to mourn a 10-year-old boy who died after being stabbed on September 18, 2024. The attack happened on the anniversary of Japan’s 1931 invasion of China. For many Chinese, it is a sensitive date viewed as a symbol of national humiliation.
