Global carmakers cede world’s largest auto show to Chinese EVs

The 21st Shanghai Auto Show, the world’s largest auto exhibition, kicked off on April 23, 2025. At least 15 companies did not show at this year’s event, underscoring growing evidence that cutthroat competition and rapid consumer movement toward electric vehicles (EVs) are edging more players out of the world’s largest car market.
